How to take proper care of leather furniture
To ensure proper leather care it is necessary to use special detergents. Therefore, when buying your leather furniture, ask if the store sells a leather sealer and cleaner. Most of the time, they?ll throw it into the purchase price. When you are cleaning your leather furniture, be careful and ensure to read the labels on cleaning products to make sure that they are suitable for leather.
There are a few simple rules for taking care of leather furniture, without the use of special detergents:
~Furniture should be regularly vacuumed. The pores of leather surfaces should always be clean.
~Regularly wash the dust off leather furniture with a soft damp cloth.
~New leather furniture does not need to be treated with protective means. The manufacturers have already done that for you. Conventional cleaning chemicals can damage leather so make sure to read the labels.
~Stains and dirt should be removed immediately by using a soft, damp cloth or sponge soaked in soapy water. Do not press and do not rub.
~Cleaning detergent should be examined on a small inconspicuous piece of leather.
~Leather furniture will always look good if once or twice a year it is processed with a special detergent designed for leather care (most furniture stores sell this.)
~Leather does not like excessive heat, dryness or direct sunlight therefore invest in some good window treatments or keep your furniture away from these elements
~Some pillows, throws and blankets may discolor your lightly colored leather furniture.
~Do not use chemical solvents, removers, and other aggressive substances for cleaning leather furniture.
~Do not use abrasives, powders and pastes.
~Never use a hair dryer and heaters for drying leather furniture.
~Do not use water and solvents in order to remove a spot of vegetable or animal fat. Wipe the spot with dry cloth and leave. Soon it is embedded into the skin and becomes invisible.
~Spills on leather furniture need to be immediately processed with a sponge or cloth soaked in warm soapy water.
Follow these simple rules and your favorite leather armchair or sofa will ?host? for years.
