If your cats only have back claws I don’t see a problem. I have leather furniture with two large dogs and we haven’t had any problems in the 3 years since we bought the furniture.

Agreed! With 30 years experience at custom upholstery, I can add this; even "declawed" cats, have their BACK claws left intact. The back claws dig in (for traction), when the cat jumps off the furniture. SO, even declawing doesn’t solve that problem.

I have a leather sofa and armchair and two cats with their back claws only. They use their rear claws for traction when jumping onto furniture, so at their most graceful you will see little pin pricks in the leather. When they loose their balance, they can put a pretty good surface scratch in the leather.
Dogs are not a good comparison because their nails are larger and more blunt. Cat’s claws are sharp to a fine point.
