I have always found it strange that an entirely different kind of table was needed just because the drink in the cup changed from tea to coffee. However there is some sense to be made from it. Wood is still the most popular fabric when it comes to home coffee tables. Birch, beech, oak, ash and teak are usually used types of wood. Glass has become popular in this area, however it is a distant second after wood.

There was a time when a home coffee table used to be a low, rectangular wood table on four legs. The day of simple patterns are gone, although the newer designs are usually much more versatile.
