When most people think about outdoor furniture, they picture some pretty cheap, disposable stuff. After all, plastic patio furniture has become commonplace in the past several years. This is the reason. Plastic patio chairs and tables have a lot going for them that other kinds of furniture don’t. They are fairly long lasting, extremely cheap, designed for comfort, light, and easy to carry. If they are broken or worn out, you can throw them away without feeling too bad about it. After all, you can always buy another one.
We do use plastic chairs and tables on family outings to the seaside, because we can pack them in the car and drive. When we lounge on the porch or in the garden, we prefer to have better quality furniture. That is why we have bought wrought iron outdoor furniture to furnish our whole backyard.
At first, I was not sure about wrought iron furniture. I knew that it looked good – I’ve always loved the look of wrought iron furniture – but I wasn’t sure that it would hold up to the weather. After all, iron is known to rust pretty easily, and it rains a lot where I live. Wouldn’t forged iron outdoor furniture to appear weathered and rusted before even one season had passed?
What I didn’t realize was that most wrought iron outdoor furniture now is treated to prevent rust from forming. This can be carried out in many different ways. Usually, an enamel paint is applied to the furniture. You should, of course, check before you buy any wrought iron outdoor furniture. Still, more often than not, any furniture sold for the outdoor use is made to withstand the weather.
What I like so much about wrought iron outdoor furniture is that it manages to be both durable and attractive. Wrought iron patio furniture holds up for a long time, unlike wicker which tends to fall apart after a couple of wet seasons. You may need to replace the cushions on wrought iron chairs after a few seasons, but this is definitely less expensive than buying a whole new chair, and it is less wasteful as well! An added bonus is that outdoor wrought iron furniture usually looks good enough that you can bring it inside at a pinch. When I had a big dinner party the other day and needed more chairs, I simply brought my patio furniture back inside. Nothing could be simpler!
